Today's one of those days. The bear got me.
The bear got all of us.
Yes, Mother Nature's a bear sometimes.
She's really great at tossing in a few curves to keep you humble and remind you who's in control.
All three TV meteorologists and the folks at the National Weather Service blew the forecast for Monday. It hurts to admit it. But it's undeniably true. You looked out the window. You noticed. Some of you even sent scathing e-mails to tell us you noticed.
Every day, we all sort through the data. We consult the models. We check the maps. We interpret what we see and we craft a forecast for the day based on our knowledge, training and experience. More often than not, without consulting one another, we come to very similar conclusions. And we publish our prognostications on the web, put them on TV and blab about them on the radio.
We all landed in the same spot today. Wrong.
Here's what the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Wilmington produced early this morning:
Turns out, they were probably the closest. But even the NWS forecasters put out an update later in the morning adding more clouds and calling for a 20% chance of showers.
WSYX and 10TV both said a "0% chance" of showers. I was going for a "mostly sunny" afternoon and, optimistically, added a degree to the day's forecast high. (I've copied everyone's forecast graphics below so you can check it out for yourself.)
But, sure enough, there were sprinkles on my windshield on the way home, a couple of showers appeared on radar and the clouds stayed thick as thieves all afternoon.

There's really nothing we can do but shrug our shoulders and try again tomorrow.
We do the best we can. And many more days than not, we're right on the money.

Marshall- people seriously send you scathing emails for an off weather forecast? They do realize it's a weather forecast and not a weather future fact report, right? Don't let them get you down!
